Blink Dagger
Mobility · 2,250gold
1200 units of instant repositioning — you pick when the fight starts.
How to actually use it
Everyone owns a blink. Most people use it as an extra walk.
- 1
One hit and it is gone (3 seconds)
WhyAny damage from a hero or Roshan locks Blink for three seconds. The thing that cancels your blink is usually a stray hit, not a stun.
HowDo not stand in the wave and do not trade right before you want to go in. If you are blinking, keep those three seconds clean.

The angle matters more than the distance
WhyAnyone can chase a straight line. Blinking into trees or up a cliff cuts vision and the path they have to take.
HowWhen you run, ask where they cannot see you first, then where is farther. Into the trees often beats toward base.
- 3
15 seconds — know your exit before you go in
WhyYou get one blink. If the jump does not kill, you are walking out.
HowBefore you go, answer: what is my second movement? If there is none, wait for a better moment.

It deals no damage — you must act on landing
WhyBlink gives no damage and no disable. Jumping in and standing there puts you inside their formation.
HowLand and immediately cast or hit. If your hero has nothing to press after blinking, the item is negative value for you.
When it is the right call
- Your hero has an ability that only works at melee range (stun, slow, silence).
- You keep missing initiation windows because you cannot walk in.
- You need movement you can reuse, not a one-time dash.
- You are a backline ranged hero who should never be that close.
- You already have a blink or a dash — that is a duplicate purchase.
- You always blink after getting hit. Then the 2,250 is wasted.
Timing
2,250, usually 10–14 minutes. As an initiator's core item, earlier is better — by 25 minutes it stops being an engage tool and becomes an escape tool.
If you skip it, buy
They have a blink. Now what?
- Blink needs vision to jump into a fight. Deny the ward and his engage range shrinks.
- He has no survivability item yet. Controlling the first second after he lands is worth more than the jump itself.
- Do not stack up — it is a single-target entry, but the follow-up is usually an area spell.
- After he blinks he has 15 seconds of nothing. That is when he is weakest.
